Product Overview
In the 21st century, there has been an increasing blurring of the lines between the urban and the rural. So it is with "Green and Grey", the second solo album from New York-based cellist Julia Kent - her first release for Coventry, UK-based record label Tin Angel Records.
Julia is best known for her contributions to albums by Antony and the Johnsons, in which she has been a long term member, and her role as an original member of cello-rock group Rasputina. She has also contributed to records by luminaries such as Rufus Wainwright, Michael Gira's Angels of Light, and Devendra Banhart. Her debut solo album "Delay" was released in 2007 and received widespread critical acclaim. The track 'Ailanthus' was featured on "Last Day in July", an EP from 2010 which was available at Kent's solo shows before being digitally self-released on her Bandcamp page.
Like "Delay", "Green and Grey" was recorded and produced in its entirety by Kent in her apartment in New York. Along with her trademark cello performances and other string instruments, the record's 11 tracks feature numerous field recordings of insects, windscreen wipers and countless other miscallenous sounds that build upon the album's theme - that of the urban and the rural criss-crossing each other, and the blurring of the line to signfiy when one ends and the other begins.
